On June 12, the IAEA condemned Iran for the first time in nearly two decades for violating non-proliferation obligations. Iran's immediate response was to announce the opening of a new enrichment site along with the upgrading of centrifuges at Fordow. Despite Iran's persistent denial of seeking nuclear weapons, its nuclear facilities are spread across various sites, including the fortified Natanz, which serves as the main uranium enrichment center. The IAEA verified that Iranian facilities, such as Natanz, were targets of recent Israeli strikes, though no radiation leaks were reported.
On June 12, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) condemned Iran for breaching its non-proliferation obligations. This is the first time in nearly twenty years that such condemnation has occurred.
Iran announced plans to open a new enrichment site and upgrade centrifuges at the Fordow nuclear facility in direct response to the IAEA’s criticism.
The Natanz facility, located underground and targeted by several acts of sabotage, continues to be a central hub for Iran’s uranium enrichment, integral to its nuclear ambitions.
While Iran continues to assert that it is not seeking nuclear weapons, its actions—including expanding and fortifying nuclear sites—cast significant doubt on its claims.
