Steve Kell transitioned from a banking career to a countryside ranger after being inspired by a cancer diagnosis to pursue his passion for nature. With the support of his wife, he obtained a diploma in countryside management and secured a ranger position at Warwickshire Country Parks. For over 20 years, he's led educational activities for children about local wildlife, fostering appreciation for nature. His work, combined with the physical benefits of being outdoors, has resulted in a happier, more fulfilling life compared to his previous job in an office.
If I'm on an early shift, my work starts at 7.15am. I'll open the park and do a site check. I usually walk between two and four miles every day.
I get such a buzz from showing people the countryside and encouraging them to appreciate their local green spaces. I love seeing the sheer delight of the children when they discover the wildlife here.
