"I'm sure you share my view, and anybody would agree, that this is a tragic case no matter where you come from and how you look at it. And, the friends and family of William and Delia deserve nothing but our sympathy and condolences."
"It all became too much. Please forgive me and wonderful Dil. It all seemed lacking in point. You've all been so wonderful too. And so many kind neighbours. Forgive. Forgive. Will."
An 88-year-old man was charged with murdering his 85-year-old wife but was deemed unfit to stand trial. A jury found that the man committed the acts charged against him, while no formal verdict of guilty or not guilty was required because of unfitness. A note apparently written by the man expressed apology and asked for forgiveness. The wife was discovered lifeless at the couple's home and a post-mortem concluded smothering as the cause of death. The man had earlier been seen threatening to jump from scaffolding and reported having killed his wife. The case was described as tragic and sympathy was extended to family.
