How Rainham Marshes nearly became a Universal theme park
Briefly

The UK is set to welcome Europe's inaugural Universal theme park in Bedford, following government approval to progress plans pending planning permission, anticipated to open by 2031. With an estimated economic impact of nearly £50 billion and thousands of job creations—primarily for local residents—this project marks a significant milestone. Interestingly, Rainham Marshes were previously considered as a potential location for the park in the late 1980s. However, ecological concerns led to the abandonment of those plans, ultimately favoring the Bedford site due to its favorable transport links.
The British project became unfeasible. Rainham was once eyed for Universal's theme park, leading to ecological concerns for local wildlife, prompting plans to be scrapped.
Bedford has been selected for Universal's first European theme park, promising to generate almost 50 billion in economic benefit and create thousands of jobs.
