The Accommodation Recognition Payment (ARP) scheme, providing financial support to hosts of Ukrainian refugees, will likely be extended but at a reduced payment of €600 monthly after March 31. Initially introduced at €400 and later increased to €800 due to rising needs, the payment has supported over 22,500 hosts caring for approximately 51,000 refugees, totaling over €256m disbursed. The scheme transitions from the Department of Children and Integration to the Department of Justice, prompting concerns among the refugee community about potential accommodation disruptions.
Since the launch of the scheme in July 2022, over €256m has been paid to over 22,500 hosts across the country, in respect of 51,000 Ukrainian refugees.
Concerns have arisen within the Ukrainian refugee community about potential loss of accommodation, especially with the monthly payment set to be reduced from €800 to €600.
With the scheme set to expire at the end of the month, it is understood that there will be a collective approach taken between the Departments of Children and Integration and Justice.
Despite the transition period for the Integration office, both Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan and Children's Minister Norma Foley are actively engaged in discussions regarding the future of the scheme.
