Hero' ex-soldier who ended Paul Doyle's Liverpool rampage says I'd do it again'
"My intention was to punch the window through. Although this was a split second, there was other people around the car, and they were desperately, desperately, and rightfully so, trying to get in. So I ran up to that window with the full intention of punching it, whatever use that would do, because I assumed that all the doors were locked and that's why nobody could get in and they were punching it. Just at the final moment, I tried the doo,r and it opened."
"I don't think it's anything special. I know it sounds mad. It hasn't sunk in. Maybe it never will, but I'll do it again."
Daniel Barr, a 41-year-old former Royal Engineers soldier and builder's labourer from Birkenhead, climbed into Paul Doyle's car after Doyle drove through crowds at the Liverpool FC victory parade on 26 May, injuring 134 people. Barr moved the gearstick into park and stopped the vehicle, sustaining cuts to his head during a scuffle. Police and prosecutors said Barr's intervention likely prevented further injuries. Barr said his original intent was to punch the window and that many others were trying to gain access to the car. He said he would repeat his actions if necessary.
