Adam Mowle, 34, of Larksfield Crescent in Essex, pleaded guilty to acquiring criminal property by fraud relating to £9,165 paid into his bank account over several months in 2019. The funds originated from a man who believed he was sending financial help to a woman he had met through a dating app using the name Jenna Leigh Smith. The victim was repeatedly asked for money to cover alleged health issues and a father's cancer and transferred funds believing they would be repaid. The payments were directed into Mowle's account. The victim later lost £93,000 through compulsive gambling while attempting to recover the funds and required medication and counselling for depression. Suffolk Trading Standards investigated and sentencing is scheduled for 18 March 2026.
