Giraffe genitalia among hundreds of body parts imported by trophy hunters
Briefly

In the wake of recent findings, it has been revealed that hunters legally obtained nearly 1,800 giraffe trophy body parts in 2023, including from over 100 captive-bred animals. The United States accounted for a significant portion of the exports, importing 1,072 trophies, which is 60 percent of global totals. As giraffes are classified as vulnerable, this increase in trophy hunting raises serious conservation concerns. The necessity for tighter regulations on hunting and trophy imports is becoming increasingly urgent, particularly for a species experiencing declining populations.
Wildlife hunters took home nearly 1,800 giraffe body parts trophies in a year including from more than 100 animals specially bred in captivity to be shot.
Giraffe are classified as vulnerable as numbers continue to fall, with 1,791 trophies exported worldwide in 2023 according to CITES.
