Thousands marched through central London calling on the UK government to stop supplying arms to Israel, carrying placards reading End the occupation now and Stop arming Israel. Fourteen people were arrested at the demonstration, including 74-year-old human rights activist Peter Tatchell, who was detained while holding a placard reading Globalise the intifada: Non-violent resistance. Tatchell said the arrest was an attack on free speech and disputed police claims that the word intifada is unlawful, saying the Arabic term denotes uprising or resistance and is not antisemitic. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said there were 15 arrests across related policing operations and Mr Tatchell was taken to Sutton police station.
