Masked men attempted to enter the Crowne Plaza on Stockley Road, west London, damaging security fences while anti-asylum groups marched nearby. Other demonstrators moved towards the Novotel on Cherry Lane and a Holiday Inn in West Drayton. Officers enforced cordons, dispersed crowds and made five arrests; two officers suffered minor injuries. A section 35 dispersal order allows officers to direct people to leave the area and not return if they may cause disorder. Essex police implemented a section 60AA order to remove face coverings and a dispersal order for Epping ahead of a planned protest. The prime minister warned that unlawful Channel crossings will lead to detention and removal.
Around 500 protesters were in the area, but most people have now dispersed from the immediate vicinity. However, further arrests will be made if we need to tackle disorder.
