Leanne McDonnell was sentenced to four years in prison after a dog she was caring for killed Akif Mushtaq. The XL Bully, named Prince, attacked the victim at McDonnell's flat in Stratford. Prior to the fatal incident, the dog had previously attacked a child and was found to be living in poor conditions, with cocaine in its system. Judge Oscar Del Fabbro emphasized that the attack was foreseeable and criticized the environment in which the dog was kept, reflecting the need for greater control over dangerous breeds.
During the nine-minute call she didn't appear to be following instructions on how to give first aid, indicating a lack of responsibility and awareness regarding the situation.
Judge Del Fabbro condemned the circumstances stating, 'The fatal attack was a tragedy waiting to happen,' highlighting the dire need for stricter regulations on dangerous dog breeds.
