"From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging."
"Nearly three-quarters of drivers who use mobile applications to pay for parking are encountering significant problems, new research reveals, as many councils opt to remove traditional payment machines in a bid to save money. The RAC, which commissioned the study, is now calling on parking operators to ensure at least two different payment methods are available, stressing that "no-one should be forced" to use an app."
The Independent covers reproductive rights, climate change and Big Tech, dispatches journalists for on-the-ground reporting, and asks for donations to fund continued reporting. The outlet does not use paywalls and states that quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid by those who can afford it. A RAC-commissioned study found 73% of drivers who used parking apps in the past year experienced issues as many councils remove traditional payment machines to save money. Drivers prefer bank/contactless cards (46%) or cash (33%) over apps (30%). Common app problems included lack of mobile signal (70%), incorrect car-park recognition (36%), app crashes (35%), and inability to use the app (13%, rising to 26% for those aged 75+). The RAC urges at least two payment methods.
