Delayed data request made by Ryan Tubridy and agent Noel Kelly costing RTE 100,000
Briefly

RTÉ is currently processing a data access request from Ryan Tubridy and his agent Noel Kelly, which has reportedly cost over €100,000. The requests, made about a year and a half ago, demand insights into internal communications surrounding a payments scandal where RTÉ failed to report secret payments of €345,000 to Tubridy. Delays are attributed to the significant workload and involvement of the Data Protection Commissioner. The resolution of these requests sees both Tubridy and Kelly employing legal representation as they navigate this complex situation, although no legal action has been initiated against RTÉ.
RTÉ has received data access requests from both parties. These require a significant amount of work that we are currently processing, a spokesperson for the broadcaster told the Irish Independent.
The crisis emerged after it was discovered that secret payments totaling €345,000 to Ryan Tubridy between 2017 and March 2023 went unreported by RTÉ.
Mr Tubridy was RTÉ's highest earner before he left the station to take up a role as a mid-morning presenter on Virgin Radio UK.
Speaking then, Mr Tubridy said: "I am truly sorry for all of this and for any part, consciously or unconsciously, that I may have played."
