"From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging."
"Our heartfelt aim throughout this long process has always been to do right by our daughter, mother and sister Dawn. In the immediate aftermath of her death, Wiltshire Police wrongly characterised Dawn as a drug user, and the public were wrongly led to believe that she had somehow contributed to her own death. As the evidence at the inquiry recognised, that was a grave mistake by Wiltshire Police that should never have happened."
The Independent highlights reporting across reproductive rights, climate change and Big Tech and solicits donations to fund reporters and avoid paywalls, believing quality journalism should be widely accessible and paid by those who can afford it. The family of 44-year-old Dawn Sturgess released a statement after the inquiry into her death following Novichok exposure in Amesbury, Wiltshire, in 2018. Marcia Willis Stewart KC read the family's statement. Wiltshire Police wrongly characterised Dawn as a drug user and the public were led to believe she contributed to her own death. Paramedics had considered nerve agent poisoning, and the inquiry found the police error posed risks to the public and emergency responders, leaving the family feeling vindicated.
