Britain prepares emergency alert over Chinese rocket falling to Earth
"The rocket, a Chinese Zhuque-3, was launched in early December and is now expected to crash into the atmosphere later this afternoon. The UK government has asked mobile network providers to ensure the alert system is operational, in preparation for the possibility of an alert being issued."
"The Aerospace Corporation predicts that it will re-enter Earth's atmosphere at around 12:30 GMT today, plus or minus 15 hours. However, there is still significant uncertainty, with the EU's Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) agency suggesting a re-entry time of 10:32 GMT plus or minus three hours. With an estimated mass of 11 tonnes and measuring 12 to 13 metres in length, the SST has cautioned that ZQ-3 R/B is 'quite a sizeable object deserving careful monitoring.'"
The UK has prepared its emergency alert system and asked mobile network providers to ensure operational readiness in case debris from a re-entering Chinese Zhuque-3 rocket falls over the country. The rocket was launched by LandSpace from Jiuquan on December 3, 2025, and its upper stages and a large metal tank have been slowly slipping from orbit. Re-entry timing is uncertain: predictions range from about 10:32 GMT ±3 hours to 12:30 GMT ±15 hours. The object is roughly 12–13 metres long and about 11 tonnes, and a shallow re-entry angle complicates impact predictions.
