"The dispute over pay and working hours escalated last month with a week-long rolling strike, which severely affected the London Underground. The union said at the time that the strikes follow failed demands on pay, fatigue management, shift patterns and a reduction in the working week, as well as, it says, failing to honour previous agreements made with staff. Following more talks, the RMT says it has "received an improved offer from London Underground"."
"Significantly, there's no mention in the RMT statement about changes to working hours. RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey congratulated members for their steadfast support for strike action. "This offer will now be discussed by the national executive committee and in consultation with the membership. "As a result, the union remains in dispute with London Underground subject to the will of the membership under our democratic structures," he said."
A pay and working-hours dispute led to a week-long rolling strike that severely affected the London Underground. The union framed the industrial action as a response to failed demands on pay, fatigue management, shift patterns, a reduced working week, and alleged breaches of previous agreements. After further talks, London Underground offered a three-year pay deal: a 3.4% uplift in year one and straight RPI increases in years two and three. The new offer makes no reference to changes in working hours. The RMT will discuss the proposal with its national executive committee and consult members, leaving the dispute unresolved pending their decision.
