Israel confirmed the recovery of the bodies of Judith Weinstein and Gad Haggai, hostages killed by Hamas on 7 October 2023. Prime Minister Netanyahu extended condolences to their families. The couple was killed during an early morning walk when militants attacked Kibbutz Nir Oz. Judy, 70, managed to call for help after being shot. The couple leaves behind a sizable family. As the conflict escalated, significant casualties were recorded on both sides, with the Israeli military confirming multiple enemy combatant deaths, while Palestinian casualties remain contentious.
The remains of Judith Weinstein and Gad Haggai were recovered and returned to Israel in a special operation by the Israel Defence Forces and the Shin Bet internal security agency.
Our hearts ache for the most terrible loss. May their memory be blessed,” Netanyahu said in a statement.
In the early hours of the morning, Weinstein was able to call emergency services - letting them know that both she and her husband had been shot.
The couple were survived by two sons, two daughters and seven grandchildren, the kibbutz said.
