Battersea's tube station's second entrance officially opened this morning
"The new entrance is located on the ticket hall level, featuring two escalators, a fixed staircase, and an additional lift for step-free access. That incidentally means the station now has two lifts between the street and ticket hall, so if one is out of action, the station should still be accessible to people who need a lift. The ground-floor entrance is simple, although the addition of double-height windows gives it a slight sense of grandeur."
"The new tube station at the end of the Northern line extension was always intended to have two entrances, one at each end of the long ticket hall. However, it's taken just over four years since the station opened for the second entrance to also open. Although delayed from the expected completion earlier this year, the station's second entrance has now opened."
Battersea Power Station tube station has opened its long-planned second entrance more than four years after the station first opened. The second entrance was delayed because it sits underneath a large block of flats that were still under construction; escalator installation began last year. The ticket-hall-level entrance includes two escalators, a fixed staircase and an additional lift, giving the station two lifts between street and ticket hall to maintain step-free access if one lift is unavailable. The ground-floor entrance features double-height windows. A pedestrian tunnel under Battersea Park Road is being refurbished to provide a future step-free, traffic-free route for Stewart's Road residents. The entrance was formally opened by transport and local development officials. The Northern Line extension recorded 13.4 million journeys in the past year.
