Accused calls Telegram 'terror posts' gibberish
"I was just talking twaddle. I was saying things in my mind and writing them down as I was thinking them. I don't know, it was a perspective I had in my head at the time. I was seeing a pathway appearing as if we were heading in a tyrannical direction."
"Not in my lifetime. I will go to arms."
"Only in paintball,"
"I was just thinking aloud and typing it."
Paul Martin, 60, is accused of encouraging terrorism through over 16,000 posts in The Resistance UK Telegram group that discussed Covid and protest actions. He joined the group during the pandemic and posted messages allegedly calling for explosives, serious violence and disruption to influence government or intimidate the public. Martin admits possessing a stun gun but denies collecting weapons for terrorism and denies encouraging terrorism. He described much of his online content as 'twaddle', 'baloney' and bravado, saying he was thinking aloud rather than intending real violence and insisting he would never hurt anyone.
