"Gieo Text is the debut release of type designer Linh Nguyễn's fledgling ÁccentiaType foundry. What began during her Masters in Type Design at the university of Reading is now published as a fresh and lively take on the classic humanist serif - the serif typeface with the oldest of pedigrees. So, after 500 years, is there anything to add? Gieo Text says yes."
"Gieo Text is a roman with unambiguous traces of its distant calligraphic origins, most explicitly realized in its stroke modulation, gently bowed stems, and subtle slant that echoes a writing hand and lends the design its left-to-right motion. In a recent comment about Gieo Text, type designer Hannes Famira captured the essence of this typeface when he called it "spirited.""
Gieo Text is a debut roman typeface rooted in humanist serif traditions with clear calligraphic origins. Stroke modulation, gently bowed stems, and a subtle rightward slant give a sense of left-to-right motion. Asymmetrical serifs combine bracketed and unbracketed forms to accentuate that motion. The italics are fluid and thoroughly modern, contrasting with Renaissance and Early Modern influences. The design employs a more generous x-height for contemporary readability. The family includes Vietnamese support and careful handling of diacritics. The name is pronounced zeo or jee-o and means "to sow" in Vietnamese.
