"This family is about measurement and control: life as something tracked, optimised and routed through invisible channels. These are three ways of thinking about what 'life' means when biology, computation and culture merge."
"Each installation was designed with the type system first, then each letter was built to behave like a small organism. From there, she structured the interactive elements around three stages: activation, evolution and reset."
"Everything about Synthetic Nature is rooted in a love for biology and type design. Eleanor is fascinated by how organisms are built, so she allows typography to feel alive like one."
Synthetic Nature features three distinct typefaces functioning as interactive organisms. The DNA type mimics mutating microscopic life through clustered, branching units. The Mesh type resembles porous networks and tissues. The Data type comprises twisted wires and cables resembling circuit boards. Each typeface represents different perspectives on life as tracked, optimized systems. The installation uses interactive technology with three stages: activation triggered by webcam face detection that slows and shrinks the type based on proximity; evolution activated by touch sensors that increase line length or density; and reset that initiates soft shutdown when unattended. The design philosophy treats each letter as a small organism, merging digital and analogue experiences while exploring how organisms and technologies increasingly resemble living entities.
