Where to Travel This Spring for the Last Bit of Ski Season, Film Festivals, or Jazz Celebrations
"The best places to go this spring celebrate that long-awaited moment when the winter finally releases its grasp on the Northern Hemisphere, and the world seems to open itself up again, freed as we are from our big puffy jackets and thermal leggings-which means we're left with more valuable space in our carry-ons, creating more room for souvenirs from wherever we may go."
"Who wants to close out the week in Guadalajara drinking the finest tequila on earth, or eating through the buzzing dining scene of Chicago? And of course, if you're game for a longer stay, the waves of Hawaii beckon, where a heritage hotel marks its grand return; and the mountains of Montana are perfect for going off-grid, especially at one of the hottest new hotels in the country."
Spring travel celebrates the end of winter, freeing people from heavy layers and creating more carry-on space for souvenirs. Five destinations offer ideal long weekends from the United States: Guadalajara for tequila and Chicago for dining, Hawaii for beaches and a returning heritage hotel, Montana for off-grid mountain stays at new boutique hotels, and Portland for festivals, art, and hiking. Portland's Rose Festival begins May 22 with fireworks, and Portland International Airport will open the final third of its new terminal in early 2026. The Portland Art Museum completed a major expansion in November, adding cultural attractions downtown.
