"The vessel, the flagship of the Cunard Line, was seen in The Narrows on Friday night on its way out for a recent voyage. The Queen Mary 2 is a singular vessel in that it is the only cruise ship in the world that still makes voyages across the Atlantic Ocean, sailing between New York and Southampton in the U.K. And while the ship was not heading for Europe on this most recent trip, it was still a majestic sight."
"The Queen Mary 2, which was christened by Queen Elizabeth II and made its maiden voyage in 2004, was seen after leaving the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook at around 6 p.m. on Oct. 3. It steamed past Staten Island as the sun was setting and then under the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge on its way to a two-week cruise through ports in New England and Canada. It is set to return on Oct. 17."
RMS Queen Mary 2 is the flagship of the Cunard Line and the only cruise ship that still sails transatlantic crossings between New York and Southampton. The ship left the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook around 6 p.m. on Oct. 3, steamed past Staten Island at sunset and passed under the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge en route to a two-week cruise through New England and Canada, returning Oct. 17. The vessel carries 2,695 passengers and 1,253 officers and crew. The ship was christened by Queen Elizabeth II and made its maiden voyage in 2004, replacing the aging Queen Elizabeth 2. The original Queen Mary now serves as a hotel and museum in Long Beach, Calif.
