"I am deeply grateful to our entire FAA team. Even through a period of record-high"
Many Thanksgiving travelers are recovering psychologically from a U.S. government shutdown that severely slowed commercial aviation earlier this month. South Florida airport officials, airlines and the FAA expect record numbers of travelers between Nov. 21 and Dec. 2. Miami International Airport projects 1.96 million passengers during the 12-day period, a 4% increase over last year, with daily peaks around 170,000. A survey found Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood holiday traffic jumped 17.3% year over year, averaging 56,226 passengers per day. The FAA expects the busiest Thanksgiving travel period in 15 years, with a peak of about 52,000 flights on Tuesday.
