This Uncrowded Ski Resort Has Heated Lifts and a Scenic Tram With Views of 3 States and 2 National Parks
"I think there's a long-held skier's mentality that part of skiing is roughing it,"
"Some people had this initial pushback of, 'Oh, look at this investment and how they're making it fancy,'"
"But the skiing doesn't change. There's nothing wrong with being a little more comfortable, a little warmer, when you're getting yourself into the gnarliest terrain in North America."
Big Sky invested more than $150 million over the past decade to update lifts, add new lifts and trams, and expand hospitality. Improvements include updating 12 lifts, installing heated bubble chair lifts, opening the Lone Peak Tram, and creating the all-glass Kircliff viewing platform at 11,166 feet with 360-degree views. The high-speed Explorer Gondola will connect Mountain Village to the Lone Peak Tram in the 2025–2026 season. Luxury additions include Montage Big Sky, Summit Hotel renovations, and the One&Only Moonlight Basin opening Nov. 18 with new dining options and a new chairlift. Comfort and upscale amenities coexist with the resort's challenging terrain.
