"Anoka has a long tradition as the 'Halloween Capital of the World,' dating back to 1920. With three parades and numerous events throughout the month of October, there's something for everyone,"
"The historic downtown is decorated with our signature Halloween banners, and the local businesses have Halloween displays,"
Anoka has about 18,000 residents and lies along the Rum River approximately 20 miles north of Minneapolis. The town has hosted official Halloween celebrations since 1920 and uses the designation 'Halloween Capital of the World.' The calendar includes three parades—the Grande Day Parade, the Light up the Night Parade, and the Big Parade of Little People—plus ghost tours, themed races, and other October events. Historic downtown features signature Halloween banners and business displays. The Gray Ghost Run, held since 1985, offers a one-mile walk and a 5k race with many participants in costume. Visitors are advised to arrive early for parades and to sign up in advance for races.
