"Standing in the morning chill on andBeyond Suyian Lodge's main outdoor terrace, I watched the sun rise in a blur of pink and purple layers over the Rock Sanctuary, a formation of ancient stone boulders in front of the lodge. As the tip of Mount Kenya slowly illuminated in the distance, I took a grateful sip of my coffee and listened to the deep rumbles rising from the valley below."
"On the roughly one-hour drive to andBeyond Suyian Lodge, we came across a dazzle of zebras grazing, a herd of elephants leisurely crossing the road, and a sounder of warthogs running through the tall grass, tails straight to the sky. After pointing out a leopard tortoise (named for its black and yellow leopard-like markings on its shell), Ngilah leaned back in his seat, asking which animals we were hoping to see during our next four days together."
andBeyond Suyian Lodge sits on the edge of the Rock Sanctuary with views of Mount Kenya and overlooks a biodiverse 44,000-acre Suyian Conservancy in Laikipia. Guests experience sunrise terraces, game drives, and guide-led wildlife viewing that can include zebras, elephants, warthogs, lions, and leopard tortoises. The conservancy hosts over 700 plant species, 325 bird species, and more than 100 mammal species, including rare melanistic leopards, African wild dogs, reticulated giraffes, and Grévy's zebras. The lodge is named for the local Maa word suyian, meaning African wild dog, and opened as andBeyond's newest property in July 2025.
