The kindness of strangers: she bought a new sim card for my mum and installed it on her phone
Briefly

Two months into a cruise to Europe, parents encountered a crisis when the father fell ill in Spain. Unable to communicate well due to language barriers, the mother became distressed and could only rely on patchy wifi for updates. The daughter quickly changed her flight to assist and reached out to local expats for help. A kind local responded promptly, providing reassurance to the mother during her difficult time at the hospital, allowing her to understand that her daughter was en route to support her.
Mum stated she couldn't see Dad due to the language barrier and stressed over his critical condition while being thrown off the cruise ship in Spain.
Finding a solution, I joined a Facebook group for expats in Malaga, and posted a plea to help my Mom who was distraught in the hospital.
Elizabeth, a kind stranger, reached out to my Mum with reassurance that I was on my way, providing much-needed emotional support during a tough time.
Mum experienced overwhelming anxiety from the language barrier and not knowing whether my father was okay, only able to communicate through limited hospital wifi.
