The Black Americans Gentrifying Ghana
Briefly

Christa Nuñez, a Cornell Ph.D. student, moved to Ghana with her family to escape political tensions in the U.S. after Trump's election. She relocated from California, where climate issues posed challenges, to research Black land politics through a Fulbright scholarship. Ghana's historical ties to African-Americans, along with a supportive community and connections to her ancestry, motivated her move. Her children attend an international school in a wealthy neighborhood and engage in local activities, further integrating into Ghanaian culture.
"When Trump won, it became a very important date for me. I needed to take my family out. I did not want to be present in the country while people were celebrating that."
"I mean, Ghana has this rich and beautiful history. Not only is it one of the countries that many of my ancestors came from, but it also has this deep connection with African-Americans."
