A Spanish tourist shared her traumatic experience of being robbed by an armed gang while on a family tour in the Amazon River, Peru. On May 14, four armed assailants boarded their boat, threatening them and forcing them to transfer money from their banking apps. After robbing the group of about 14, the assailants left them stranded in the jungle for an hour. Thankfully, a local family rescued them, but concerns arose over the tour company's lack of emergency protocols. The operator, Canopy Tours Iquitos, stated they reported the incident and are enhancing security measures.
"We contracted a family tour, a sightseeing tour… the hardest part was when these people boarded the boat. They forced us to open banking apps on our phones and empty our accounts."
"This incident was beyond our control and reported immediately to authorities. We activated our emergency protocols and have been actively cooperating with the investigation."
