Room leak refund battle sours 'trip of a lifetime'
""thought the girls were mucking around and they turned off the lights in the bathroom. "I came out and there's buckets in the room and I was like, 'what's happening?' Then there's water dripping through the ceiling.""
""All of a sudden I heard these other splashes and so did the other girls and we looked up and it was literally raining through the light switches.""
""I was reluctant to even pull my phone charger out of the plug socket. Water and electricity doesn't mix.""
""was not handled to the standard we strive for""
Wendy Pinch and two friends experienced significant flooding in their ground-floor room at the Hyde Park Boutique Hotel during exceptionally heavy rainfall on 3 October. Water leaked through the ceiling and began dripping through light switches and other fixtures, creating hazardous conditions. The women left before midnight to find alternative accommodation after being told by Booking.com they would receive a refund, which did not arrive during their trip. The hotel approved a refund but could not process it due to payment-system issues with Booking.com. The hotel attributed the flooding to blocked drainage caused by leaves and praised staff efforts that night.
