Railway engineering works close lines, but unlock a little-used bit of track near Twickenham

"Due to Network Rail engineering work, SWR services between New Malden and Twickenham and on the Shepperton branch line will be affected between Saturday 14th February and Tuesday 17th February 2026. On Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th February, buses will replace trains between New Malden, Shepperton and Twickenham. On Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th February, buses will replace trains between New Malden and Twickenham. Shepperton services will resume, but will be diverted via Twickenham (instead of Teddington) and will not call at stations on the Kingston Loop."

"With the line closed, engineers will also take the opportunity to complete a range of supporting maintenance work in the area. This includes maintenance to the signalling Shacklegate in Teddington after the completion of the Feltham and Wokingham Area Resignalling Programme. Engineers will also be demolishing redundant signalling equipment buildings at Strawberry Hill and Shepperton, and renewing the level crossing surface at Hampton."

Network Rail engineering work will affect South Western Railway services between New Malden and Twickenham and on the Shepperton branch from Saturday 14th February to Tuesday 17th February 2026. Replacement buses will operate between New Malden, Shepperton and Twickenham on 14–15 February. On 16–17 February buses will replace trains between New Malden and Twickenham while Shepperton services run diverted via Twickenham and bypass Kingston Loop stations. Planned maintenance includes work on the Shacklegate signalling at Teddington, demolition of redundant signalling buildings at Strawberry Hill and Shepperton, and renewal of the Hampton level crossing surface. The reroute via the triangle junction offers a rare operational pattern for rail enthusiasts.
