Many travelers were stranded, faced long delays and incurred thousands of dollars in extra accommodation and alternative flight costs. Airlines added extra flights to assist stranded passengers, but some passengers still waited a week or more to return home. One couple’s six-day honeymoon extended to 14 days, resulting in missed work and unplanned hotel nights. The Department of Transportation did not respond regarding possible compensation or refunds.
