One&Only Moonlight Basin Nestles Between Big Sky's Peaks
One&Only Moonlight is a full-service alpine-style resort in Montana’s Gallatin National Forest, designed to help guests settle into nature through a strategy of protective, elemental, deeply grounded amenities. The 92-key destination enables daily excursions such as hikes and ski runs, then returns guests to expansive interior spaces. Buildings are sited within a basin framing views of Lone Peak and distant Spanish Peaks, using dark metal rooflines, quarried stone, and nearby timber, with steel, bronze, and copper accents. Arrival features a low-slung roof and timber-column porte cochère, followed by a main lodge with a double-height lobby, a large fireplace of Montana Moss Rock and perforated steel, and warm carved oak, bronze, woven textiles, and leather. A Dear Josephine Bar and a Wildwood Restaurant accessed by a carved staircase with a suspended bone sculpture reinforce the resort’s crafted, grounded character.
"Their dark metal rooflines, evoking a local agrarian vernacular, are anchored in place by quarried stone and timber sourced nearby. This earthy palette is framed and honed by steel, bronze, and copper accents. Nestled within this basin locale and framing sweeping views of Big Sky's Lone Peak, with the Spanish Peaks farther afield, the highly crafted yet minimalist structures here offer the best of both worlds."
