My Favourite Airbnb: an artful townhouse with Mallorcan soul
"You should know, I have a low tolerance for the British winter. Not for the cold itself - give me snow and a good jacket, and I'm on board - but for the damp greyness of London in January, which feels to me uniquely relentless. It's why last year, I decided I'd escape somewhere warm at least once each winter. Somewhere with natural light, a sense of creative energy and crucially, access to water."
"That search brought me to Mallorca. Flights were just £35 return, and I was keen to explore beyond the polished south-west of Andratx, which I'd visited nearly a decade ago. Santanyí, in the south-east of the island, felt like a good fit, with its reputation for sun-washed stone buildings, a slower pace of life and a well-established creative community. What struck me immediately was how easy it was to fall into the village's rhythm."
"Just a few steps away, I find Cas Padri Pons, the three bedroom townhouse I would call home. At first, I nearly walked past it; the carved stone numbers are subtle, and the wooden door gives little away. Once inside, however, you're bathed in Mallorcan character. Sunlight fills the space, glancing off a curated mix of vintage objects, from tribal sculptures to stained glassware."
A sandstone wall conceals a three-bedroom townhouse on a sun-drenched corner of south-east Mallorca. The village of Santanyí offers sun-washed stone buildings, a slower pace and a well-established creative community. Independent galleries and boutiques line short walks from the bus stop, and local cafés remain busy even in low season. Cas Padri Pons opens into rooms filled with sunlight and a curated mix of vintage objects, including tribal sculptures and stained glassware. Mallorcan stone, exposed brick and timber beams create sculptural architecture, complemented by textured layers and rounded mid-century furnishings. Upstairs, distinctive cow-print chairs add a whimsical touch.
