"The Transportation Security Administration is expanding another program to keep the agency's promise of TSA PreCheck airport security lines that are 10 minutes or less. But some California airports didn't make the cut. The agency plans to expand its Touchless ID program by this spring, allowing travelers to keep their boarding passes and Real IDs in their bags. Instead, the officer will direct the traveler to take a photo and, using biometric data, waive them through."
"Touchless ID is already available at 15 major U.S. airports, including Los Angeles International Airport, San Francisco International Airport and Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport. The new rollout includes 50 more airports nationwide, adding Sacramento International Airport, San Jose Mineta International Airport, John Wayne Airport in Orange County, Palm Springs International Airport, Long Beach International Airport and San Diego International Airport, according to multiple media outlets."
TSA will expand its Touchless ID biometric program by spring to help maintain TSA PreCheck lines of 10 minutes or less. Travelers can keep boarding passes and Real IDs in their bags while officers take a photo and use biometric data to verify identity and waive them through. TSA says images are not used for law enforcement or surveillance, are not shared with other entities, and are deleted within 24 hours of scheduled flight departure. Touchless ID operates at 15 major airports and will add 50 more; several California airports are excluded. Participating airlines include American, Alaska, Delta, Southwest and United. Passengers opt in by adding Known Traveler Number and passport details to their airline profile.
