Meet the Mayo men undertaking the 'World's Toughest Row' for to raise funds for children's cancer charity
The planned crossing covers 3,000 nautical miles (4,600 kilometres) and will take 60 days at sea in winter. The rowers expect over three million oar strokes while traveling from the Canaries to the Caribbean. Tom Bourke and Bryan Hyland will attempt the trip in December using a four-year-old Rannoch R25 rowing boat built in London. The boat has already crossed the Atlantic twice. They will raise at least €250,000 for The Daisy Lodge, a short-stay facility opening in Cong next year to provide respite for children with cancer and their families.
