Luas Green line service to resume gradually this evening following power outage
"Transdev, the Luas operator, apologises to all Luas customers and the travelling public for the impact of this service disruption. Luas wishes to reassure customers and the public that maintenance teams and engineers - who have worked around the clock to address the issue within the 48-volt safety circuit system, which caused the Green Line power failure - will remain on site as services return to normal operations."
"As previously outlined, engineers identified that the fault lay within a critical low-voltage safety system known as the 48-volt system. This is not connected to the overhead lines that power the trams. Instead, it forms part of the safety network linking substations to the Central Control Room, allowing power to be safely monitored and controlled across the line. In simple terms, this system is designed to cut power to the overhead lines in an emergency."
Luas Red Line services are operating normally. Luas Green Line services were suspended yesterday evening during the rush-hour commute, causing traffic chaos in Dublin city centre. Luas tickets are being accepted on Dublin Bus while Green Line services were out. Green Line services will resume between Brides Glen and Broombridge from 18:00 and operate until 00:30, with trams every 15 minutes. Transdev apologises and says maintenance teams and engineers worked around the clock on a 48-volt safety circuit fault and will remain on site. The 48-volt system links substations to the Central Control Room, monitors and can cut overhead-line power in emergencies. Engineers are working systematically through the Green Line and substations to resolve the issue.
