"My husband and I left New Zealand in 2022 to travel full-time. We'd been planning it for a few years, and as the pandemic began waning, we set off. We started off in Thailand, one of the few places we could fly into when we left. We traveled around Southeast Asia for three years, spending time in Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam and Indonesia. But we were feeling burnt out."
"We visited Lombok with some friends and fell in love. It's beautiful, peaceful, and (like so many places) the local people are so welcoming. As we sat on white sandy beaches, watching buffalo walk past, we knew we wanted to stay. So we began putting in place plans to make it our base and have been there, on-and-off, for the last two years."
Tania and her husband left New Zealand in 2022 to travel full-time across Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam and Indonesia. After three years of travel they felt burnt out as remote work combined with constant planning consumed time. A visit to Lombok with friends convinced them to settle there part-time; they found white sandy beaches, peaceful surroundings, and welcoming local people. They chose Lombok for the possibility of long-term stays to avoid frequent packing and to gain stability and grounding. They began planning to make Lombok their base and have lived there on and off for the last two years.
