She tried a naturist holiday in southern Crete and found the prospect exciting rather than terrifying, later feeling liberated and proud of every part of her ageing body. Travel has been lifelong, sparked by childhood fascination with lorries and a Vespa escape to Cornwall at 17. After her husband's death and a later breakup she maintained her passion, later visiting India and staying in monasteries in Nepal.
