Copa operates multiple daily flights between New York's JFK and Panama City's Tocumen (PTY), serving as a key connector between North and South America. The carrier is a Star Alliance member and flies Boeing 737-800 and 737 Max 9 aircraft on JFK routes. Premium economy features a 17-inch-wide seat with generous legroom in a 3-3 layout, combined with regular economy yet feeling spacious due to large overhead bins and elbow room. Flights run under five hours and offer a variety of films, documentaries, and shows, a USB power port, but no onboard Wi-Fi. Operations and in-flight service are characterized as solid and dependable.
Panama-based Copa Airlines may not yet have a robust following in the United States, but savvy fliers are becoming more and more aware of it thanks to the carrier's solid in-flight service, dependable operations, and large route network across the Americas. Akin to a Panama Canal in the sky, Copa offers numerous and vital connections between North and South America through its hub in Panama City.
Copa, which is part of the Star Alliance, is based in JFK's Terminal 4. Since I was traveling in premium economy, I boarded my flight with Group 3 and found there was still plenty of overhead bin space left. On JFK routes, Copa uses a Boeing 737-800 or Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft and the premium economy seat was roomy at 17 inches wide and with a generous amount of legroom.
