I booked private cabins on overnight trains in Europe and the US. The more expensive ride was a better deal.
Briefly

The author shares their experiences comparing two overnight train journeys: a 30-hour ride from NYC to Miami on Amtrak and an 11-hour trip on OBB's Nightjet in Europe. Both journeys featured private sleeping spaces but differed significantly in comfort and overall experience. Costing $500, the Amtrak roomette provided solid amenities but came with stiff beds. In contrast, the Nightjet's more affordable private cabin offered greater comfort, allowing for a better night's sleep due to softer bedding. Ultimately, the experiences highlighted the varying value and enjoyment found in overnight train travel across different rail services.
The most comparable rides were the Amtrak roomette and a private cabin on OBB Austrian Federal Railway's Nightjet train.
For $500, I traveled 1,094 miles in an Amtrak roomette. The roomette is the train's second-tier of accommodation.
The European bunk was slightly more comfortable. With a thick, smooth comforter and a bed with a little give to it, I slept slightly better.
Both rides offered an enclosed space with beds, in-room sinks, and wash basins, but the experiences were completely different in many ways.
