Holidaymakers reveal they will be using VR to 'try before they fly'
"Forget browsing holiday brochures before choosing your next getaway, or even scrolling online. Many tourists are opting for a more high-tech way to check out potential holiday destinations. easyJet and easyJet Holidays' annual Great British Holiday Audit 2026 looked into the travel trends for the coming year. The airline and travel company found almost half - 49 per cent - of holidaymakers will be making the most of technology to 'try before you fly'."
"Brits will be wandering around the streets of Venice on a VR headset to see what their hotel looks like from the street. Alternatively, they might choose to watch a vlog online to get a feel of their next destination. Virtual street view is another way Brits will be utilising technology to thoroughly research before booking. The use of impressive devices for holidays doesn't stop there."
Almost half (49%) of holidaymakers will use technology to 'try before you fly', using VR headsets, vlogs and virtual street view to preview hotels, streets and local areas. Twenty-two percent plan to use translating technology to overcome language barriers abroad. Fifty-two percent intend to explore new destinations, while 51% have already booked a holiday for 2026. The average booked holiday length is ten days. Fifty percent of travellers intend to take a beach holiday. Technology is also valued for checking restaurant menus, beach bar views and local walkability, including accessibility for wheelchairs and buggies.
