Heathrow angers passengers with 17% rise in drop-off charge to 7
"Heathrow's decision to increase its terminal drop-off fee to 7 and introduce a strict 10-minute limit is yet another example of rising airport charges hitting the very people who keep our economy moving. Business travellers are being penalised the moment they arrive at the airport. There's next to no justification for this. These charges do nothing to improve the passenger experience or reliability of access to Heathrow. All it does is simply raise costs for individuals and businesses already facing higher travel taxes."
"A report on the taxi news service TaxiPoint said: Taxi drivers might argue that some passengers with luggage, mobility needs or young families sometimes require extra time at the kerbside, making a strict cut-off difficult to manage. Any overstay risks additional charges or enforcement action. Drivers also report congested approaches into terminal forecourts at peak times which can also chip away at the time available to disembark passengers."
The terminal drop-off charge will rise from £6 to £7 at the start of the new year, following a prior £1 increase earlier in the year. Drivers exceeding a 10-minute limit face an £80 penalty, reduced to £40 if paid within 14 days; failure to pay the £7 charge online by midnight the next day triggers the same penalty. The fee has increased 40% over 12 months since its 2021 introduction at £5. Re-entering the drop-off zone counts as a new visit and incurs an additional charge. Concerns highlight impacts on passengers with luggage, mobility needs, families and taxi operators, and increased travel costs.
