He was flying from L.A. to Houston. So how did he end up in Tokyo?
""How strange," Calderón thought to himself noticing the meal's Asian flavors. "Usually they just give a snack and a soda.""
""just grabbed the ticket and scanned it," Calderón said."
Víctor Calderón boarded what he believed was a domestic flight from LAX to Houston but was placed on an international flight bound for Tokyo. Early signs that the flight was not domestic included a pillow service and a full meal with Asian flavors. After about six hours he realized the plane had not diverted to Houston and informed crew that he needed to be in Houston by 5 p.m. for a connection to Managua. His assigned seat on the Houston flight was empty on the Tokyo aircraft. Gate proximity and a hurried agent who "just grabbed the ticket and scanned it" contributed to the misboarding.
