He set out to walk around the world - after 27 years, his quest is nearly over
"Karl Bushby's epic walk began with a bet made in his 20s. Now 56, he is still walking."
"Karl Bushby made a barroom bet that he could walk from the southern tip of South America all the way home to England. His friends had little faith."
""Suddenly, it became a challenge," Bushby said of the bet he made in his 20s. "That conversation gathered steam, until eventually I did the math and thought, 'this is doable' ... I became semi-obsessed with what it would take to achieve something like this.""
Karl Bushby made a barroom bet in his 20s that he could walk from the southern tip of South America all the way back to England. His friends had little faith in the idea. A growing conversation led him to calculate the logistics and conclude that the journey was doable. He became semi-obsessed with planning what it would take to undertake the trek. He turned the bet into a challenge and set out on the route. Decades later, at age 56, he remains on the walk, continuing the long-distance journey he began in his youth.
