This year also marks the beginning of a series of upcoming 200th anniversaries of various railway lines that shaped connectivity in the country.
Over the past few days, some 140 trains and locomotives of all shapes and sizes, from the oldest to the newest, have converged on Derby to pay homage to the 200th anniversary of the first passenger railway service.
Alstom's huge Derby site has been filled with locomotives from steam to hydrogen, from miniature to giant, famous and less so. The company can trace its heritage back to the first locomotive that ran on the Stockton and Darlington railway in 1825.

This year marks the 200th anniversary of the locomotion revolution, and we have loads upon loads of 200th anniversaries coming up over the next few decades.
