Air New Zealand launches bunk bed-style sleeping pods on its planes - but there's a catch
"The Economy Skynest sleeping pods will allow economy passengers to stretch out, lie flat, and get a few hours' proper rest in the air, enhancing the travel experience on ultra-long-haul flights."
"Passengers will be required to purchase an actual seat, with the sleeping pods available for an additional session fee of NZ$495, and only two sessions will be available per flight."
"Air New Zealand has been developing the Skynest for several years, with the initial news hitting headlines back in 2020, indicating a long-term commitment to improving passenger comfort."
Air New Zealand is launching Economy Skynest sleeping pods on its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flights, featuring six horizontal bunk beds for economy passengers. Available from May 18 for select flights starting in November, these pods include a mattress, bedding, privacy curtain, and charging ports. Passengers must still purchase a seat and pay an additional fee of NZ$495 for a session. Initially, the pods will only be available on flights between New York and Auckland, with strict rules regarding usage and behavior.
