Ian and John King Oppermann met on Bumble and became serious during a December 2018 two-week road trip from Zurich through the Swiss Alps to Vienna. They hiked, biked and fell in love with the Austrian countryside and Vienna while discovering shared interests in classical music and history. Ian's passion for opera made Vienna a pilgrimage, and the city’s nightlife, restaurants, parks, walkability and bikeability appealed as well. The couple got engaged in February 2024 after returning to Vienna multiple times and planned an ornate June 2025 wedding for 50 guests across four venues featuring traditional wool outfits, classical music and schnitzel. Ian manages administrative tasks while John organizes social plans and found a photographer via Instagram.
"We fell in love with the Austrian countryside, we fell in love with Vienna, and it's where we fell in love with each other, because we realized we have the exact same interests," says Ian.
"Ian really loves opera and classical music, so this was really a pilgrimage for him," says John. "But it also has modern nightlife and great restaurants and parks. It's a walkable, bikeable, livable city that is just so beautiful."
Within their partnership, Ian tends to all of the administrative and practical needs (he's the "house manager," as John says) while John himself is more of the social coordinator who's great at planning outings and nailing party vibes.
