In new Ontario budget, Doug Ford's housing target looks increasingly out of reach | CBC News
Briefly

Ontario's latest budget forecasts a sluggish housing construction pace, with projections of 71,800 starts in 2025, 74,800 in 2026, and 82,500 in 2027. Having achieved just 260,000 starts since 2021, the government is falling significantly short of its ambitious goal of 1.5 million homes by 2032. Analysts argue this suggests the Ford government may be abandoning its housing commitments. Notably, the budget allocates $400 million to infrastructure programs and a modest $50 million for modular housing, but no revisions were made to the main funding initiative, the Building Faster Fund.
"The government should acknowledge that it's clearly not going to make that target," said Eric Lombardi, president of More Neighbours Toronto, a volunteer-run housing advocacy organization.
The budget includes no changes to the centrepiece of the government's housing plan, what's called the Building Faster Fund.
